The cap is threaded internalls as the picture. MK1 front strut housings can be a bit of an ordeal, when the cap rusts / corrodes in place and becomes not removable. Try loosening off your strut cap first before assuming these will work for you. The other option is to replace your suspension with height adjustable coilovers, then you do not need to re-use the original front strut housing at all!
